After I dropped the tank and installed a new fuel pump, the fuel gauge when on empty will jump all over the place, from empty to full like it is possessed, even worse when going around corners, but so far seems OK when the tank is 1/4 full or above, any ideas on why this is happening?

I have just come to the conclusion that Blazer fuel gauges belong in the same category as bigfoot, the lock ness monster and yetti..........They are all unexplainable phenomenon !

The ground was the first thing I checked, but I will check it again.

Thanks

I'd concur with mudzer. My ground wire rusted off twice leaving my Blazer dead on the spot after burrying the needle 1/2 way around the gauge past full! It got freaky like yours just before it died!

Good Luck

Another thing to check on is the baffle in the tank ....
They come loose sometimes and end up wiping out the sender...

That's what I am afraid of, if it's the baffel it is going to stay that way for awhile.

Yep, my money's on the baffle. The previous owner of my blazer went through three different sending units trying to solve the mysterious guage problem. After I got it, the fuel gauge went crazy around a 1/4 tank then stopped working completely a few weeks later. A new tank fixed the problem, and was a lot cheaper than those three sending units.

Steve,
If you've checked the ground already, then my money is on the baffel too. Also, after I checked the ground in mine, I traced the wire back to where it joins the rest of the wires at the starter...found a spot where it had worn bare, and was grounding out there also. I did a temp fix, cause I plan on replacing the whole harness with one of those 18 circuit deals from painless.

I hate to sound crazy but the fuel guage wires goto the starter?!?!?! If so that might explain why my fuel guage works rather funny and my starter seems to smoke and not work!!!!
