My gas gauge doesn't work correctly, but it doesn't not work.

When I fill it up, it reads a quarter tank, and the drops accordingly until it reads empty when the tank is empty.
Sounds like maybe there the resistance somewhere is 1/4 what it should be, or maybe its 4 times what it should be.

Anyone ever seen this before?

Edit: The truck is a 72 Blazer

Yep. 0 ohms is empty, 90 ohms is full.

A broken sender wire or high-resistance in the wire will be indicated as "uber-full" on the gauge.

Probably a sunk float.

Ive got the same problem. I lost it altogether for a while. i replaced the sending unit twice and swapped out a used dash gauge. no change. i then found that the last time i rebuilt my tcase i pinched the wire to the frame. I now have freed it and the gauge is back to where I was in the beginning. the full mark is the quarter mark. As long as it tells me im full or half or empty, its not on the top of the list. I might mess with the main wire, but im thinking there might be resistance at the fuse block.

On the subject of gas? I was looking through the forum sometime ago, and found a guy who had found a flexible hose company for the fuel filler line. Does anyone remember which thread this was in? I put a 40 gallon tank in the blazer, so I have to find a new filler line, as I also moved the fill location.

Also look over on my build thread around the gas tank install and you will see how I modded mine with second gen parts.

I will, and thanks again for the help. My build is the "Jeffs project". I will have some pics up soon.
