I have a 1976 K5 that I picked up pretty cheap. It has a 350/T350/NP203 in it. I would like to go 350/T700R4/NP208; or maybe a 454. the 454 is out of a 1990 K30 crew cab so it would be smogged up. my question is; I have a 350 TBI motor and the 454 TBI motor; would you go with the TBI for fuel injection or go aftermarket.
you can get a summit system for less than $1000 and I am sure there are other options on the market in the same ball park price. to me going aftermarket makes more sense as if I added a cam and/or heads and/or headers or anything else performance wise the aftermarket will compensate for it; while the TBI doesn't take kindly to mods. at least what I heard.
axles will be a Dana 44 and SF 14 bolt with 5.13s and locked at both ends. lift will be the ORD lift and shocks off @AgDieseler Suburban. (I either need to use it or sell it) and tires would be 40s. Either ProComps (discontinued but I have a set), Yokohama X-mts; or PitBull Rockers.
this Blazer already has lots of weight reduction (rust) and I have the parts so a beater because leaf springs party harder!

Personally I would go stock

I have run the Summit system on my K10 for 5 or 6 years now, on a mild 350. I have put maybe 10000 miles on it, including a pair of two thousand mile round trips to Moab.
I can report it has worked flawlessly. I did have to get a new handheld monitor because the screen cracked. The parts used in the system are pretty common and easy to get.
Just make sure you have a good fuel pump capable of 58 psi.
And you are correct, if you do any engine mods later you can recalibrate the computer and have it self learn again.

Love my edelbrock proflo 4 .

But

There is nothing like stock turn key and just go and enjoy stock tbi for dinosaur simple stupid . .

I have a smog era 454 with Edelbrock pro flo 4 in a 1990 K5. It's great. I didn't use a stock tbi because I put a performer cam in the engine. EP381 pump with a stock tbi sending unit.

To clarify, if stock engine can't beat the stock tbi, but if you are modifying it then go aftermarket.
I might have stock tbi parts for either one if you don't have them

thank you; still just kinda in the dreaming stage right now. I may not have the computer (ECM) for either one of them. still trying to figure out what to keep and what to sell; I think you can relate. my problem is I have all these parts just sitting for a GM. I can either use them or sell them.

Sounds like your gonna mod the engine, go aftermarket. Also sounds like you’re gonna wheel it, and you understand the FI is a must have for off camber angles..
I found an Msd EFI system locally that was taken off a local hot rod and sold for cheap, put it on a 300hp kegs 350. Swapped the tank and fuel system out for EFI stuff. Just the basic tune parameters entered and it runs really good, great is within reach when I have time to fine tune it.. best mod I ever made..

I agree with everyone else...If you start trying to get more performance out of the stock TBI, which we all do, you will hit a wall. You have learn how to burn chips, or find someone who does. You will be boring your throttle body, putting spacers in and upgrading everything you can. Instead, go with the aftermarket and you can change pretty much anything you want from the handheld controller while you drive. I don't know anyone who has gone aftermarket and regrets it. BUT, if you're ok with stock, and you don't intend to change anything, then you've got a great easy to work on system that even I can troubleshoot.
