Fuel issue?

Dorian is correct, the small hose that connects the pump to the sender sometimes splits and will give all kids of frustrating issues that are hard to find. Like he said, if you deadhead the pump with a pressure gauge that should be enough to let you know without dropping the tank that the hose is fine. If that hose is bad you need to realize that that hose is special hose called SUBMERSIBLE FUEL HOSE and you cannot use the standard fuel hose otherwise the fuel will eat the hose from the outside.

When I plumbed the fuel system to handle the TPI pressures I used braided hose with -6AN fittings from the tank to the fuel rail. I also converted the fuel rail to have the lines enter and exit out the back instead of the front.

I may be able to disconnect the fuel line on the engine side of the filter and see if I can get a fitting on it to get a reading.
 
Don't want to hijack, but either PM or here, can you tell me how you did the conversion for the lines out the back? I really want to be able to re-use the stock lines when I swap bodies/frames, but impossible the way the Camaro fuel lines are stock.

Vettes have the fuel lines coming into and out of the fuel rail on the rear. I know that Street & Performance used to sell a kit to convert from front to rear entry but don't know what it consisted of.
 
I haven't messed with it since last weekend. I watch my 3 year old before I go to work, so I don't get much time to fool around with it. I'm going to a cruisin the coast for a few hours tomorrow and Sunday I need to go out and find a place to hunt, (bow season opens up Monday). I should be able to get a few hours in it this weekend to see what the problem is.

It's been awhile since I converted the fuel lines to go out the back, but the vettes do have them go out the back. I believe I got the fittings from S&P and I have to cut the fuel line off the front right rail and plug it.

I'll try to take some pictures of it and post it in here. If I have to do the regulator I'll have to pull the plenum, so I can get some better pictures of the lines going to the back
 
I appreciate it. I had been looking for some vette fuel rails for some time, haven't/hadn't had any luck finding some that weren't $250.

Really not interested in adding/adapting fittings if I can avoid it (probably end up buying the Mcmaster flare tool that will make the saginaw fittings) but I'd really like to be able to run the fuel lines up the passenger side of the frame.
 
Well, I just got done pulling the line from the regulator and just alittle bit of gas dribbled out of the line when I took it off, but isn't that the return line?... Is that a bad regulator?
Before I pulled it I cycled the key on and off a few times and crank it to make sure there was fuel in the rail.

Yes, if there is fuel in the vacuum line then a bad regulator diaphram for sure.
 
Well there wasn't any fuel in the line, but it does smell like gas...

Well since you have the plenum off it's a good time to pull the regulator apart to see what you find and the diaphram is cheap enough to just replace it anyhow or even go with an aftermarket adjustable regulator.

Make sure you use SUBMERSIBLE fuel hose and NOT regular fuel hose or you'll have big troubles again as regular fuel hose will come apart when submerged in fuel.
 
I'm using the fuel hose that came with the new fuel pump. I figure I already have the new pump and the tank is already down, might as well just put it in.
That fuel hose also came with that pump. I'd think that they'd send the right hose with the pump, right?

You would certainly hope so. It wouldn't hur though to buy a length from Gates though so you KNOW you have the correct hose and that it's quality hose. http://www.gates.com/brochure.cfm?brochure=5091&location_id=541
 
Is the right hose marked "submersible"?

I wonder the same thing...those pumps came out in the 80's when the fuel wasn't as bad for the rubber, how old are the Delco pumps that are being sold now??

I don't drive mine much, but got me a bit worried that I may end up with the same problem!
 
Well, I picked up some Gates submersible just to be sure. Everything is back together and running good again.
