Just dropped my tank to change the sending unit, I didn't replace the fuel pump as it was working perfectly. Got everything put back together and fired it up and now my engine surges on idle and when you give it gas it dies. What would cause this?

88 K5 TBI350

did you tighten the lines before the tank was all the way up? probably twisted the lines and they are pinching themselves closed.

Well, the problem still seems to be there.

History, blazer was running perfectly 2 days ago minus the sending unit not working. Got a good used sending unit, installed my pump on it with a new sock and also changed the fuel filter on the frame rail.

What this does.....
Hard to get started, takes a few more tries rather than the normal turn the key and fires right up. Once it does start, the idle surges up and down for a few minutes then levels off to normal idle. When the tranny is in park or any gear for that matter, you go to give it gas, you can run it up to about 2000ish rpms then she sputters and stalls out.

pretty sure when i saw your rig it had the 6.2 diesel emblems on it... you sure you got the right fuel in that sucker?? :dunno:

:D lol.

i'm telling you - that's your problem! drain it and get yourself 32 gallons of new diesel! :D

ok. i'm done dicking around in your thread. :D i have nothing useful to offer.

Yeah as I sit here with a dead/won't move truck LOL I know your just messin :D

When my TBI BB did this, it was an obstruction to the pump. The engine was starving for w=fuel because the pump couldn't push enough fuel at high demand.

I've installed a brand new sock (pump screen) on the pump. Only thing I did not do was completely drain the tank. Don't know if I have enough gas cans laying around for 30 gallons of fuel LOL

perhaps a good long garden hose with you at the pump station and your dad at the other end??? dammit... i just can't stay away from the hijacking.

Unk=hook your lines at the throttle bosy and the top of the sending unit and run a few punds of air theough them to see if the is a restriction there. If not I am guessing it would be internal to the tank.

Yeah, tomorrow I'm going to drop the tank out and completely drain it. Run some air through all the fuel lines and see what that produces.

A big thanks to Scott (4X4HIGH) and the many phone calls to him on helping me figure out this issue. Come to find out, all this headache was two 50 cent o-rings that were missing on the sending unit/pump lines.
