Fuel issues..

I just replaced the fuel pump on my 82 k5 6.2 diesel because the old pump leaked everywhere. After the swap the truck started fine. The next day, it took me 20 min to start my truck. It wasn't getting fuel, acting like a carbureted engine that sat for a while, or like I ran out of fuel and my filters were empty. Now everytime I turn it off for more than 15 min.. I have to struggle to get it started again.

Anyone know what the issue could be?? It ran perfectly fine (besides leaking like a stuck pig) before the fuel pump swap.. I also checked the parts store and they say they gave me the correct pump..

Check the rubber hose from the frame to the pump there may be a hole letting the fuel drain back into the tank when you shut your blazer off also the valves maybe bad in the new pump.

Go over every hose you touched, and tighten or double clamp each one. If that doesn't take care of it the new pump may have a diaphragm problem allowing fuel drainback.

Thanks guys.. I'll crawl under in the morning and see if a new fuel line fixes it.. The old one is dry and hard anyways..

Just so you're aware, a leak small enough to not drip but large enough to draw in a tiny amount of air will do exactly what you're describing. I have the same issue with my pick-up...just haven't had the time or motivation to go out there and fix it yet.

I bought my 82 k5 6.2 7 years ago for $750.00 at a used car lot near me.. this year is the first time I have had any issues. A new tranny, and some misc upkeep stuff.. I think that was a wise inventment.. I love my truck..

One of my injection lines was leaking and diesel was smoking off my block like a smoke generator at highway speeds.. My fuel pump was also leaking. I installed the new pump and tightened the fuel injector line.. Guess it doesnt suprise me though that somethin is still leaking.

Oh.. and recently I pulled a friends car out of the mud. When I backed away from him, I was in 4x4.. I heard a loud boom from underneath.. and no more 4x4.. My front axle isnt engaging. My driveline still turns, but I havent pulled the diff cover yet to see what broke. I'm scared to..lol

What kind of hubs do you have? I would check to see if the axles turn when the wheel turns before tearing into the chunk.
You might have snapped a hub, front axle U-joint, or a stub shaft.

Its faster and easier to check that than the chunk.
Of course, it never hurts to pull the cover just to see how things are doing and to replace the fluid.

I replaced the rubber fuel line between the pump and injector pump.. but the fuel line still drains when i shut it off, causing me to have to prime the whole system again when I want to restart.. Think I will pull the new fuel pump today and swap it out with another just to rule it out. Also thinking of goin to a electric fuel pump setup. Any pro's/cons??

Electric fuel pump would be the best because everytime you turn the key on the system is primed ready to go and easier to change when it quits. The down side to the electric pump is it cost more to replace than the factory pump. If my memory serves me right the pressure output for the electric pump needs to be 5-9 psi that what it was for my 1992 chevy diesel and it was mounted on the frame.

Well, I installed an electric fuel pump as the "pick up" pump.. No more starting issues. I wish I woulda dont this mod years ago. Wow it starts so easy now..

Well, now i just need to fix the fuel rail-an injector is sprayin fuel onto my block causing lots of smoke at highway speed.. I would like to get new injectors while I'm at it, but I cant afford $50.00 a piece.. So I'm just gonna fix the leak and hope for the best.
