fuel line to AN fitting help

I am installing a fuel cell in my K5.

The fuel return line for my diesel is 5/16" Which would be a -5 fitting but they do not exist. The return port on the cell is a -8.

I plan on just running the rubber line hose clamped to the stock steel return line. Then to the correct 90 degree fitting, to a -8 to -6 reducer then to the cell. Would it be ok to just use 3/8" hose and clamp it tight to the steel line? It is only a 0.0625" difference in inner diameter.

5/16 to -6 AN line adapter. I don't know if the smaller -6 line would be a bottle neck in your situation. I'm guessing no, since the factory size is 5/16.

Your method would probobly work, but this would be cleaner with less chance of leaks.

Why not use a fitting to go from hard line to -6AN on the 5/16" return line then use a -8AN to -6AN adapter fitting on the fuel cell and then a steel braided flex line between the two?

Yeah I don't see it being a bottle neck it is going to a larger size fitting not smaller.

Don't have the money to buy the few extra fittings. If I can get away with just getting the fittings to attach to the cell and then hose clamp everything else to the stock steel lines at the frame. I would be happy.
