I have a 90 K5 that I bought and it only starts it you pour gas in the intake but wont stay running. Is there any way to check if it the fuel pump? I'm just trying to get it home.

when you turn the key on do you hear the pump kick on? Don't just assume it's the pump either, make sure you check the relay on the pass side of the firewall and the fuse. Let us know what you come up with.

you should hear that reley click when you turn the key... you know the sound.

Also - when was the last time you changed the fuel filter?

Not to hijack the thread, but this is fuel pump related.

When I turn my truck off (and remove the key) sometimes i can hear the fuel pump running or "winding down" for anywhere from 3-15 seconds. Any idea what that might be?

I had someone with me today so I could listen to the fuel pump and relay and they both sound like there working. The reason I needed someone esle is because it's next to a busy freeway and I can't hear anything by myself. Well I still put a new relay and filter and nothing :frown1: I didn't see the fuse that was under the dash. I ordered a sender and pump anyway cause the sender is out. It's been stitting for about 18 months but started every couple months, before it was parked it had a gm motor put in at the dealer maybe 1k on this motor. I guess I'll just have to trailer it.

here it is no rust

You need to turn the inner ring, I think it's counterclockwise, and the whole assembly comes out. Use a brass drift and hammer so you don't create any sparks.

Thx, well I found out the problem. I hope this is it.
