So I was out trying to do a little wheeling, and had been beating the truck pretty hard for about an hour, and then it just stopped running while doing some really easy stuff.

I am getting spark at the distributer cap.
The fuel pump relay clicks on, and clicks off after 2 seconds when the key is turned on (normal).
When the fuel pump relay is on, you can hear the fuel pump...
but my gauge at the Throttle Body is not picking up PSI. It stays between 0, and 2 PSI (where it always is when the engine is off).
There is NO GAS coming out of the injectors when I crank the motor.

Im assuming that it is only the fuel pump that crapped out, because the fuel pump makes noise like it is running, but does not seem to pump...
Anything else I should look at?
If it was my control module in the distributer, I would think the pump would still build pressure when the key was turned on? - Or the pump would not be trying to pump at all?

I just started dropping the tank to take a look. Also my gas gauge has not been working for a while- not sure if its the sender or the gauge...
And i probably only had about a 1/4 tank of gas in it when it quit.

Oh well, heres the pathetic video:

really sucks backing down trails with no power steering or brakes.

oh and just probed the connector in the harness at the tank. My battery is dead as hell from cranking, and Im still getting 11.5 volts at the connector during those 2 seconds when the fuel pump tries to run...
so the relay should be good...

Sounds like you've got it narrowed down pretty good.

1. fuel pump is weak
or
2. ran it out of gas

How's the fuel filter? A new filter can make a world of difference with these low pressure pumps.

was gonna mention, that yes the pumps can die that quickly.

Several years back i was chatting with a co-worker in a parking lot, both our trucks were running, he had a lowered S-10, and just out of the blue, his shut down and would not refire. Swapped the pump out right there in the parking lot and everything was fine from then on.

Good you got it running though.

Sorry those pics suck, but this used to be the baffle in my tank.
I guess it broke off and wiped out the sender and the pump.
so the pump was working, it just sprayed gas all over the inside of the tank

The sender seemed to still work: 2-99 ohms (?), so it got welded back in place,
and I bought a new pump/screen since the tank was already down.
Cutting the baffle up a few inches at a time really sucked.
everything seems to work now, but the new pump is so good, I cant adjust the fuel pressure down under 15 psi! Going to play with it more later.

I don't think it matters on that fuel pressure, your regulator should be regulating what goes through the injectors, and any leftover pressure is suppose to go back to the tank through the return line.

stock pressure supposed to be 11-13psi-almost always on the low end of that though...

my reg is no stock. i used to have the reg cranked up pretty good just to get 13 out of my old pump. Now with the new pump, it is still putting out 15 with the reg backed off as far as I can. The knob on my reg is hitting a vac port tube on the back of my throttle body. I will have to take the throttle body off just to get the adjuster off so it can be shortened...
damn.

Do you have a higher pressure regulator spring as well as the adjustable regulator? Also is the new pump for a TBI application or a TPI application?

Ahhh... it got more complicated... Dont think my gauge was working.
I smelled gas... popped the hood, and my regulator gauge was half full of gas like a fish bowl, and dripping out onto the intake...

So I went and got a new gauge, backed the fuel pressure all the way off, and it went down to about 12psi. So I turned it up a little and left it at 13.

Drove about a hundred miles today- smoothest it has ever run. And nice to have the fuel gauge working again. I was really tired of sputtering up to a gas station with 150 percent full showing on the gauge.
