Fuel pump issues

About 3 years back I I had my buddies shop put in a new fuel pump/sending unit on my 90. Forward a few months ago it started acting up. Sometimes the sending unit doesn’t read and if it did it would be about 1/4 tank off. Now it will cold start ok but let’s say I come home from lunch and get ready to go back to work after an hour I’ll start her up and she will die, restart…die, restart and die. Then I’ll try again and after the 3rd or 4th try it’ll be fine. I’m thinking they used a shitty fuel pump so I want to switch it out before it leaves me stranded.
Would the Delphi HP10026 be a good unit? Or maybe the U.S Motor Works USEP3633S? Anything else I should be looking at? I normally order off rock auto

I would supect the ground because that will affect both.

You can force the pump to run non-stop by running a + batt wire direct to the single wire hanging off the fuel pump relay.

I'd probably try that when it's acting up since the problem is fairly consistent sounds like, to ensure the problem can be isolated to the pump circuit. If it is specifically the pump circuit, the truck won't need to be running to replicate the issue.

Once you have that portion of the circuit as the culprit, I too would be looking at the wiring by the tank first. Very basic, only three wires back there (pump positive and fuel gauge sending wire are on the same connector, ground goes from sending unit to the frame) and grounds are always suspect. Never hurts to disconnect, clean the surface and the ring terminal, use dielectric grease, and reassemble.
