How much noise does your fuel pump make? On my 87 with TBI, it is loud and vibrates quite a bit. Is that normal?

Should be a quiet hum. If it is getting loud and vibrating it is most likely going out.

The '87 Custom Deluxe 4x4 I picked up is pretty loud as well. I'm assuming it is going to need replaced before long.
Fuel pumps should produce a very quiet hum. Only slightly louder than, say, a fish tank air pump or similar.
A sure sign of fuel pump failure or "aging" is when they begin to hum, or change pitch erradically (sp?), etc.

i've also seen dirty fuel filters make the fuel pump noisey.
