I'm assuming it is going to need replaced before long. Fuel pumps should produce a very quiet hum. Only slightly louder than, say, a fish tank air pump or similar. A sure sign of fuel pump failure or "aging" is when they begin to hum, or change pitch erradically (sp?), etc.
