on my 91 K5. Unhooked the filter inlet and listened to the tank, nothing. The ground is secure to the frame and everything but the gauge cluster (gone) appears to be hooked up? I haven't started this for 2+ yrs but installed a new pump/sender right before it went under the knife. It fires with some gas down its throat though. What might I be missing? Whats completes the pump circuit? I'm stumped ...

so you don't have a gauge cluster or.....ya do? lost me there.

Did you pull the wire connectors and check for power?
If powered, bad pump. No power, bad relay or beyond.

Did you crawl under it and check to see if there is voltage getting to the plug with a test light??..the plugs are noted for corroding, and even if voltage is present,it might not be a full 12V ,not enough to activate the pump...if you get voltage there, try reconnecting the plug (clean the connections first if they were corroded)--then see if the pump will come on..sometimes banging the tank with your fist with the key on will awaken a stuck pump or one with a weak motor..
If you get no voltage at the pump plug, check the fuse and fuel pump relay--there is likely another relay in the fuse box you can swap places with the fuel pump one to see if the relay is faulty..

I'm not sure if the fuel pump circuit runs thru the dash cluster or not, maybe the gas gauge needs to be in the circuit??..you could run a 12V hot wire right to the one that powers the pump to see if thats a possibility..I think the oil pressure switch and the ignition module or crank sensor are also tied in with the fuel pump circuit too..

Don't have the gauge cluster. Tried my spare relay but haven't checked for power at the pump yet, i'll be doing that next. I suspect i'm not going to find power there though, just not sure why... i'll head out now and report back.

Yes I smacked the tank and will check for power at the pump plug.
I too wonder about gas gauge, seems to me when I put an aftermarket one in years ago it wouldn't start as a stand alone gauge? There are currently no gauges installed.

Thanks for the replies!
