FUEL PUMP QUESTION

When I turn on the ignition I hear the fuel pump hum for a few seconds then the humming stops.

Is this the normal fuel pump function or is it suppose to have a steady humming sound while the ignition switch is on?

the fuel pump humming is the sound of the pump building up pressure in the lines, it shuts off when the desired preassure is reached., it will turn back on while the engine is running but it is much harder to hear
