I have an 88 k5 and it needs a new fuel pump. Of course it cant be just replace with new one and thats it. It is saying i have to splice a new harness in. The existing wires are purple grey and black and the news ones are not the same. Has anyone replaced this. I dont wanna mess it up and have to pull the tank back down

If you're just buying a stock replacement pump for your application it is just a "plug and play" meaning nothing to splice or modify, just unplug the wire connector and replace the pump and plug the connector back on the new pump. If you're buying a universal pump then you will probably need to splice some wires.

Thats not necessarily true. The s10 I worked on had a splice kit to update it to some sorta newer updated pigtail they changed one year. Idk if this happened in our trucks but its a possibility.

That would mean the pump isn't factory. I know sometimes GM and other manufacturers have updates that take place and in those instances i would expect to have to splice/modify a part to accept a newer version. Now back to my original "IF IT'S STOCK" :D

i can just replace the fuel pumpit is a stock replacement but in the directions it was highly recommended to put the new wires in because the crack or melt over time which i did see signs of the two wires i was more concerned about was the two ground wires. one went to the harness and the other grounded directly to the sending unit
