fuel pump trouble?

even w/ tbi cant i still pour gas into my tbi and get a reaction while cranking-if the fool pump isnt working?
 
Pretty hard to meter it correctly. Carbs you can pour it into the float bowl and it's still metered and somewhat atomized. Injectors do that job on TBI.

You will need to verify if the injectors are pulsing, if the fuel pump primes when you turn the key to "run" initially. This is assuming you can see that the injectors are not dumping fuel as the engine cranks. Doesn't hurt to check fuses either.

Yes, it will fire for a second or two at least. Easy enough to check for fuel spray by having someone crank the engine while you look at the injectors. In there is no fuel spray then there are a couple possibilities. Bad fuel pump, bad relay (pump should still work if the oil pressure system is still working but it will take longer to work) or could be a mad ignition module since they also drop signal to fuel pump when they go bad (not always but generally).
