not to long ago my fuel gauge started acting up. it would read way over full then sometimes read right then over full then right then over full and yadayadayayada you get my point. i dropped the tank the other day and checked the ground and it looks fine. so could it be the sender getting bad? its in my 86 k5 and i belive its the orginal sender.

IIRC, if the pink wire from the sender to the gauge is removed, the gauge will ping past full.

This is an open circuit, not a short, and is a PITA to test for ... but check said pink wire for cracked insulation or damage from metal, maybe a kink, where it would get disconnected. Also make sure it's got a good connection at the sender -- that rubber nipple thing could be loose or corroded.

My K5 has been does this of late and I've been too lazy to get under there and trace the wire.
