just got back into port and found my truck leaking fuel where the tank rests on the bracket. At least I filled the tank the night before I got underway. :haha:

Looking for reccomendations for a fuel cell. Also pics from anyone who mounted one flush in the bed floor. That seems to be the best location.

I believe Colby did his tank somewhat flush in the bed of his blazer but my 'puter won't let me see pics of many threads so not 100% sure. Check his most recent post in his build thread.

I don't think I'm doing what he's looking to do, but here's a pic of where I'm at currently on the project:

I cut a hole in the floor of the Blazer and raised the tank up till it was flush with the frame. Then I built a tunnel to go around it. The tunnel still needs a lid, but it will have a recess in it that will allow me to have that hi-lift base sit flat, as shown, and have my highlift mounted to the side. ;)

Kert was talking about making fuel cells that mount in the stock location but don't hang below the frame. Not sure he has gotten around to making any yet but you could probably convince him

Why not just braze the hole shut and then use the proper insulating strips so it doesn't happen again?

if I get a fuel cell with only the fuel supply and return fittings, what do I do with the 3rd line from my TBI tank? (purge)

It might be cheaper to replace the tank ($100) and support straps. Coat the new tank with 3M undercoating ( the best spray undercoating made ) before replacing. The new tank will outlast the truck.

true. But everytime something goes wrong with the truck, it gives me a good reason to upgrade while fixing the problem. Plus I hate the tank being where it is.
I may have to keep it stock though, depending on $$. Anyone know where I can get new brackets that hold the tank to the frame? I did not see them at LMC.

The gas tank straps should be avalible at any parts store. They may have to order them though.

It's not a purge line per se (at least not what I'd consider purge like something that is valved) it's "simply" a vent line.

If you have a low PSI vented cap that is bi-directional, you don't really need a vent line. Finding a cap like that is hard, but not sure how the fuel cell caps work. Impossible to find near-atmospheric pressure vented caps anymore, most are at 16PSI, which is way too high for a tank without a vent line.

I've got a complete tank just sitting outside waiting for you. It has all the mounting hardware still on it. It's from a mid 80's lwb C10.

I guess I never posted an update to this. :doah:

Anyway, I was in ahurry to get hte truck mobile so I could get it back out to CA so I just used two JB weld kits after I cleaned the tank bottom down to bare metal. Than I painted hte whole tank and strapped it down in the bed of the truck on top of two rubber floor mats. It worked pretty well until 3 days ago......

Now I'm back on the hunt for a fuel cell again, and the prices are giving me heartburn.

While I'm at it, I think I'll remove the bed and build a flatbed. It will be easier to fit a fuel cell that way.
