I have a '79 Blazer that I am putting the final touches on its 496ci/650hp power plant. The old fuel filters were constantly picking up pieces of derbie. I have already replaced the fuel lines, but I think the 39 year old fuel tank needs to go too. I have been lookin on line for replacement tanks, but can not find a stainless steel tank that is a direct replacement . Does anyone know where I can find one? Also, does anyone know of a direct replacement that is larger than 31 gallons? I havent run the new motor yet, but I am guessing it will need as much fuel as I can give it

spectra prem is as close to oem as possible .

never seen stainless unless custom made .

blazer stock was 26 or 31 only . suburban was same as 31 just longer to make it 40 gal . but that is lots of work to fit in a blazer .

might have to bite the bullet and get custom in stainless steel like you want .

There are a ton of places that carry the tanks. I typed “31 gallon blazer tank” and hit search

But a 40 probably won’t fit without hitting the bumper and differential

Northwest Fab use to make a 43 gallon for Blazer. Bad news is 5 years ago they sold the tank part to another fabrication company and they discontinued all Chevy tanks

I've seen plastic gas tanks for pickups, but I'm not sure if there was any for Blazers..no rust issues with plastic..

Have one made.

A factory replacement will last longer than the engine and at a $100 it’s cheap enough to replace again, when (if ever) that is needed.

I might have to do that. I am just surprised that I have to custom or with steel. I was hoping someone had one ready to order.

North West Metal products. I would give sunset a call. It seems they still make the IHC,old Bronco and Jeep tanks. I am sure they have the plans and rights to build the chevy blazer version.
I just sent Sunset an email so we shall see what can be done.

Thanks for the lead, I will check them out.

I want a 40 Gallon tank myself. But i think i can use the stock burb tank since my frame has to be extended anyways for the chalet camper overhang.

Yeah if you extend the frame the right way instead of the bolt on piece they did on the chalet you can put the burb tank

The tanks are galvanized, unless and until that is penetrated, which it shouldn't be, the tank won't rust.

Normally the problem is from the outside in, but I'm sure if you dent the tank and what not, it will damage the galvanizing. Back east the salt and humidity probably doesn't help either.

Some folks do have problems with tanks rotting inside, but of all the GM tanks I've pulled out of vehicles, to include a couple of 1967 Firebirds, the interior of the tank while a bit dirty, was either not rusty, or if it was, generally only the sending unit.

What I'm getting at is that properly made, the tank should last a long, long time. I'd drop the tank and take a look before I bought anything. You cannot beat OEM quality without spending a ton of money. It could be the sending unit, someone running it without a gas cap at one time, not properly vented, etc. The interior might be fine, just a bunch of sediment, or problem not related to the tank itself.

Ok, just so you guys know, when i reached out to Sun Set, they told me they didn't have anything for my truck. Looks like I am going to have to go with a steel tank, like suggested by dyeager535.

I know you are right. It is just that i have gone first class to this point by replacing the fuel lines with stainless steel tube and braided lines. I was hoping i could finish with the stainless fuel tank, but it isn't worth the cost to have one custom made.

Go with a cheap galvanized tank. Then, they have coating you can put inside your tank to prevent rust, kind of like paint. You pour it in, roll it all around to coat, and pour excess out. I've seen it but not for a while. May have been in Eastwood. Then on the outside, bedline it. That tank would last longer than the truck it's in then.

I have used the tank liner in my Harley tanks with good luck in the past. Obviously the 31 gallon tank is substantially larger than the ones on my bike, but i should be able to find a good product pretty easily. Thanks for the advice

OEM tanks usually last 20 years before they rust and leak--aftermarket quality ones like Spectra are usually just as good, and they have a warranty...
If a plastic tank was available I feel they are better--no rust to worry about, and they don't dent or crack very easily..

These places sell 25 and 31 gallon plastic tanks for your year Blazer..

Good morning Doug,
Thank you for contacting us. Since purchasing the tank division we have scaled down considerably on what we have to offer, and unfortunately we no longer have available what it sounds like you are looking for.
Thank you again for contacting us and best of luck with your search.
Best regards,
Chuck
