Ok so for my build I am highly considering using a fuel tank/toolbox combo form RDS. I was thinking of using this as my PRIMARY fuel tank, which is not what their tanks are designed to be used as. They are designed to supplement the primary and slowly fill it for you. Now the only downfall to using this (other than cost) is it doesn't have a sending unit, nor provisions for one (only a sight gauge) and LEGALITY! Apparently, though this is a DOT approved tank but I don't think its ok to use it as your primary. Who can help me with any of this, or used a tank from them?

adding a sending unit is simple....

i'm guessing you'd probably catch grief for it living in Cali....

Yes sir, all day. I kinda figured adding the sending unit wouldn't be that difficult, I was thinking cut out section, welding in stock stuff, I already checked the lengthof the GM unit vs. tank depth and it seems ok to me. But Ryoken, I know your a ultra savvy guy. Do you have a recommendation?

I would just slap a hole in it with a holesaw and put a universal sender in it...

yessss, I was looking at those last night from West Marine. That's the plan, except I need a new gauge that will measure 33-240 ohms instead of stock 0-90.

You can find universal senders that work with the GM 0-90 ohm fuel level. I've run accross them at multiple websites.

Ok, how about this, what if you got one of the little racing gas tanks, one that is like 2 gallons, and ran that with the toolbox/tank filling it. Technically it wouldnt be your primary.

I think that is a cool idea that could possibly work yet California is so anal about fuel cells and such. I would have to look into it more but it does seem like a potential loop hole K20, thanks I will strongly consider it.

Ryoken is this something like this what you had in mind? -
