ok my father is a mechanic and last time he was over he set the timing by ear... it is about 14 degrees...
now i know the plugs are gonna be carboned up... my distro was 2 teeth off... choke was getting 4v and smothering engine.. didnt know that... drove it that way for a few years... now it is all setup right..
i need to change the plugs, wires, distributor cap and rotor....
now on the holley im using the blue pump cam and MOST of the hesitation is gone.. however i get a pop through the carb... a backfire... and it is ignited... a bud said that means the valve is open when the gas is ignighting... he said carbon on the valve could do that... guy at speedshop said could be a number of things... timing, vacuum advance, etc...
anyone have any tips to narrow down the issue? i was told the tuneup wont make it stop doing it but im going to do that anyway..
parts to get
ac.delco plugs
msd wires 8.9mm
accel cap/rotor w/gold leads
dont know where to start
