when it comes to being safe, you'll always hear hydro-assist. Really full hydro is much more safe. When have you heard of a hydro line being ripped off a vehicle on the road. There is planes in the sky, tractors on the road, military vehicles, and fork trucks used in companies, and yes some blazers and such off road all of running full hydro. I know of three things that that kills full hydro in these uses, some one cutting your line, a major accident- hitting your lines, or driving over something that got in the way of your lines. If some thing hit you that hard to rip your lines then you allready stopped, if some one cut your lines then you wasn't able to drive out of the parking space to get on the street, and if you see some thing you should drive over then don't.
What i'm trying to say is if your engine dies then hit the brakes. If you have a rig that big and your thinking about using full hydro in and your in a turn, your most likely not going that fast anyways . If you have that big of a rig, then watch where your going when your on the road like everyone else, so you don't hit something that could kill a hydro line or someone else. Hydro lines is alot stronger then you think. Use a good cooler and it won't over heat. it's that easy!!
I like hydro assist but full hydro really has me interested. The only reason i haven't done it yet is because I will be moving to another state soon and they will want to do a vehicle check. But after the check, it's on. No one else will check and no cop will know the difference.

I totally agree with everything you said NOVA, I have decided to go full hydro, if it is done correctly the only thing that could cause a loss of steering is a ripped or cut hose, proper inspection of hoses will bring attention to hoses going bad before they break. You can still have limited steering with a failed pump. I feel it is much simpler, less headaches and most likely cheaper then crossover/high steer/hydro assist.

Like I said before, a ripped hose, loose/leaking fitting, loose or broke mounts/clamps. It may be cheaper, simpler and more powerful than a hydro-assist setup... it's still not the safe thing to do on the street IMO. Oh yeah, did I mention with my ORD crossover setup and rocklogic 1.5x8 ram, I can move my entire truck over with the front tires if they are against something solid, like say, a concrete building. Running your truck on the road should almost demand hydro assist.

Like i said, I use hydro assist. I like it and it does work. To say it's safer then full hydro really doesn't make seens these days. planes are full hydro in steering, & landing. I feel the street is safer when it comes to failures then the sky, for everyone involved. Look at snow plows, full hydro. When i use to snow plow in indiana my lines were subjected to 60 below weather and hit by blocks of ice for year & no failure. Every once in a while the hydro's at that temp. would make the hydros act a little slower. Hydro assist is allready slower then stock, but at 60 below, it gets slower. full hydro always worked!! Hydros on car suspensions, they work with used parts from ww2 (the pumps,ww2 plane landing gear) and untrained installers. Most of the time it's the batteries that fail or install, not the hydro's. Farm equipment is allowed to have full hydro steering. when a vehicle is unable to go hyw speeds it get's an orange triangle and stays off the intersate. When farm equipment can go 60 mph. it's allowed on the interstate for transport. What i am sayingn is, yes there is exceptions to the rule/law, check it out. Don't forget the safest elevator's in the world is full hydro. hydro elevator never just drop like cable ones, they just slowly come down.
Pros and cons to both. Opinions to both sides, neither is wrong, it's just an opinion.
