After I cut off the top on my '90 blazer I started looking at the holes in the A-pillar.

So what I did for a little extra strenght was stuff 2 - 1/2" cold rolled rods into each side (4 total for both sides).

I've added these pictures if my words don't make sense.

Just a thought for a little added strength when a tree or rock might bump into my K5.

might still permit some slight deformation, but serious beef over what it was before...cool idea

I like it. You planning on doing a full write up or at least a thread for the conversion?

Is it going to rattle around in there at all? How tight is it? good idea sounds like.

A good write up on the conversion has already been done (I know I've read it a million times before and during this conversion) so no real need for me to say the same stuff.

Also, about rattling, it is pretty wedged in there but also when you weld the top/bottom together you actually get some weld on the rods. So I don't believe it will rattle.

Thanks for the input.

tRustyk5 did a similar thing when he did his conversion for 2 reasons:

1 - it helped to line up the frame because the tubes dowels held everything in place real nice.

2 - it prevented the welding from blowing through the sheet metal because there was thick material behind it that ended up welded into the structure of it as well. this would prevent any rattling too.

I hate to admit this but I didn't measure them. What I did was stuff them in there until they stopped and then cut off the excess that wouldn't fit in the top of the windshield frame. Real exact huh?

My guess would be 1 was 22" long and the other 18" long.

It's too late now cause those suckers are welded in.

My splice was lower down, so there was room for 3/4" OD tubing. I used about 6" so the new frame had stubs to sit on.
