So I have a nice setup... took it out as I installed it real crappy... gonna redo it...

anyway... do you prefer the fullsize relay or the micro relays?

I am going to mount my 8 relay - 16 fuse setup back on my firewall... I will use 2 relays for the headlight mod (need to find that diode post so you dont need a 3rd relay)..... and 2 relays for my front bumper KC's and 3 relays for the rollbar lights.... that leaves me with 1 spare relay....

but im curious.... post up how you mounted your relays for the headlight relay mod please.....

here she is when I had it crappily installed....

Thats a decent unit, where did you get it? I have only ever used 2 relays for headlights on any vehicle.

I mounted my relays here. This pic is before everything was connected and cleaned up.
Relays are
2 for headlights
2 for electric fans
1 for clear driving lights
1 spare

Part of the advantage to the headlight relay mod is to minimize the wiring length. The ideal location for the relays would be between the battery and the headlights. If you have them further away, use heavier wire. I have an electrical center similar to yours, but I mounted two relays on the radiator support behind the grill to drive the headlights.

The "diode mod" is very simple and it keeps your low beams on when the high beams are on (only for 4-headlight systems). Wire your high beams to one relay and your low beams to the other. Each relay coil will have a positive feed from one of the old headlight wires. Now attach a diode between these two positive wires. The "stripe-side" of the diode will be towards the low beam relay.

Why not run low/high beams in the lower position too then?

I mounted my "relay center" on the core support as well, between the passenger side battery and the fans the relays feed. Short enough run that the "spare" 12V wire coming off the battery cable reaches.

You could run quad lows + quad highs, but it's actually nice to have a set of lows with your highs to fill in the sides of the road and the areas closer to the truck. I'm not sure if 4 low-beams is legal. For the small side-by-side headlights in the 89-91s, nobody makes a dual element bulb.

well you are allowed (in NJ) 2 aux lights.. so if you did 4 low/high bulbs... that could count as 2 low beams plus 2 aux lights....

Micro relays are becoming more popular in OEM situations. Take a look at most any car built in the last 5 years. There will be a mix of micro and fullsize. The micro I believe they can go up to 30amps now, but if they are going to be activated often, the OEM's stick with the fullsize. Looking at my newest car (my '04 GTO) headlights and fuel pumps get fullsize, and alarms and horn gets micro. Just for an example.

BTW, nice realy/maxi-fuse unit. I pulled the same unit from a late nineties Bonneville. I found all new Delphi terminals and re-wired them from scracth. I'm not completed yet, just waiting for an engine to button it up!

I re-wired my whole truck, the whole truck, every wire and terminal.

The Maxi-fuses use Delphi 800-Series Terminals (GM/Delphi numer 12110127)
The Relays use 400series pull-to-seat terminals. There is no GM number for them
I bought them from an online elec. supply place. It was a while ago, do some searchs for delphi terminals and look for the 400 pull to seat ones.

You need the special delphi crimper for terminals.

Instead of liquid tight flex did you look into teck cable? Its an armoured cable, pretty much the end result like LT but all in one package from the get go.

This place is way too full of temptation for me. Now I'm going to be obsessing about rewiring my Sub.
