Funky bearing wear ?

From my friends CAT C-15 Engine front timing gear set 1 of the bearings . Looks like a mini lightning bolt pattern .

Rest had normal wear marks .

Perhaps something during manufacturing?

It looks like pitting.
Could be manufacturing defect or Could be long intervals between oil changes creating acid environment that eats metal.
Seen that before
 
If you look closely at the photo there is little bits missing from the bearing at the parting line. im guessing the direction of rotation was how the red arrow shows??

a little piece of material came off and ground/galled/rolled/milled its way along?? Thus why the Dremel tool effect???

could be defect in bearing or a result of assembly or honing process after installation?
 
yup, then i stick to my story! material from the bearing seperation was being carried into the bearing. the oil flow/pressure kept it from coming full circle, and any material that was not imbedded escaped out the sides of the bearing.


its either that, or it was the Dremel tool
