FYI; Beware the Detroit Truetrac is not a LSD in reverse.
I'm thinking not everybody may be aware of this so i thought i would pass this imformation on. I found this out firsthand one day when i was stuck in the bush, i was trying to back out of a tight situation and i looked down at my left rear and it was spinning free as can be, Luckly my situation was'nt so bad i could'nt get out, but people who are considering installing one of these units may not like the the no LSD in reverse factor.

As far as i can tell the Truetrac's heilical gear design only works in one direction, it would have been nice to know this before i bought the thing.

As a sidenote, The one i had in my 12 bolt failed with little effert, i blew the helical gears right out of the weak sister carrier in a situation where
my stock u-joints or driveshaft should have been the weak link. The Truetrac (12 bolt timebomb ) IMO is scarcly worth the time and money. I had one of Detroits Easylockers in there before the Truetrac and what a piece of junk that was (slipping, popping and banging all the time)!!!!! I read somewhere they were made in China with infearier matierials and they don't sell them anymore, i'm not suprised, (I got the Truetrac when i returned the Easylocker) I wonder if the Truetrac isn't made there too ? I'm running a Lockright locker now made in USA, wish i bought from Richmond Gear in the first place ! Cheers

I think you may have had some other issue. Anytrhing that is gear driven will work in either direction.

I wouldn't trust a lockright for sheeat. I fukced one up w/a 2.5a in a S-10.

I have a Lockright behind a BBC and have abused it regularly with no problems. I have also found them to be stronger than D44 axle shafts.

On the topic of a Tru Trac, they have to be loaded to work. If you have one wheel in the air, they will very often spin. If you apply a little brake and load it it will force the screws out and will start to drive the wheel that is off the ground.

I have the powertrax in my white truck, it makes a bunch of noise but holds up to my adventures, my old lock right in a d44 was the same.

Hmmm I thought I remember seeing advertisement videos that TrueTracs where for onroad applications that wanted "more" than a posi but still good turning...

Idk I can tell you my lockrite locks fully in both directions. It also bangs on the street like a gunshot.

It took me a couple of runs before I figured that out...

both the Dana 110s I have have Detroit truetracs in them. must hold up. D110 diffs are rated 14,000lbs.

All I ever hear out of mine is click, click, click, when going around a turn, w/o throttle. I like mine.

I had a truetrac in the d44 and lockrite in the 12b for years and got used to the click, click, click...:D

Never heard a shotgun bang...:eek1:

Sounds like something is wrong with that guys locker...
