Not technically a tool related post but I need music in the garage to function. I'm looking for something decent that is FM stereo and /or MP3 jukebox type. I have hard drives full of MP3's that I'd like to listen to in the garage since that is about the only time I can when Spongebob or Dora aren't on the TV :doah:

Wall mart special with an auxiliary slot that you can run an mp3 player in with a double male ended chord.

I just use a set of computer speakers and plug my phone/laptop in. I don't like any of the damn radio stations any more. When I heard the "classic rock" station playing Green Day, I just removed my FM antenna lol.

ive got a pioneer receiver and 25 disc changer in my garage with two floor standing Jensen speakers, 15" woofers, 5" mids and 7/8" liquid cooled tweeters. i actually dont have that much power inside my house. you can hear my garage stereo on the next street over. its never on FM though, thats for damn sure. either 790AM (legends of country) CDs or ive got my iPhone plugged in.

Late 90s Pioneer 5.1 with 10" sub and two 12" loud speakers. Gotta hear the music over the salamander heater, welder, and air compressor :D

I have an old kenwood reciever that is filled with bondo dust and metal shavings and still works great. Got some bookshelf speakers at a garages sale for 10 bux and been running them for years and years.

leftovers and hand-me-downs mostly.....

I have 4 big arse, donated, heavy oldschool speakers, they'd take up too much room in my living room.. right now i'm running an all in one unit (cd, tape, radio) that my bud gave me, but for many yrs i just ran an amp and 6 disc cartridge realistic cd player...

that frikken cd player was so overpriced when I bought it 25 yrs ago, but I'll be damned if it doesn't work like new to this day... all covered in dungeon dust.... :haha:

I have the older (~10 yrs) 18V milwaukee job radio, with the Rockford Phosgate speakers, it sounds really well for a boombox style radio. I don't even have batteries for it anymore, I just leave it plugged in, and it does have a cloth bag with an aux wire in the back for an MP3 player.

I've got an OLD Realistic (IIRC) in the garage. Big dials, big tuning slide, etc. I plugged in a DVD/MP3 player into the back. I also have a cord that goes from RCAs in the back, to 3.5mm jack in the front. IPod plugs in that way. Two Infinity speakers, 6.5" cone with separate 3/4" tweeter for each box. All this was free and sounds great.

You can add an IPod to most anything. The computer speaker package would be one of those choices too. :)

$50 at a pawn shop, 5 disc changer, Loud as needed.
Just aint right that a thread dont have pics:rolleyes:

Edit; It also plays mp3 and wma so I just burned up 5 discs with 6-8 cds a piece on them and hit random.

I've got an old Shark brand record player, 8 track player, and stereo. It plays through the original speakers and a pair of Sony speakers from an old CD player I had. I play mp3s on it using its auxiliary jacks on the rear and 1/8 pin jack to rca adapter to hook my android phone to it. Works great except the bass response is pretty poor.

Figured it out. I have a Technics receiver that's about 17yrs old. Use to work great but it had quit after this last move. opened it up and found a blown fuse.
I also have a Kenwood surround sound receiver. It wasn't working either. Would come on but no sound. Opened it up and found the antennae jack was disconnected inside. Both are now fixed.

I have radio stations. Now I just need to find a way to hook up a MP3 player :dunno:

Sorry of the pic is HUGE

they got cords for like $10 that have a headphone jack on one side and 2 rca's on the other. just get one and plug it into an aux, cd, phono or any other input on it:waytogo:

I got a 30GB MP3 and an Altec docking station that I use. Very compact and not much money. Not going to be rattling the windows with Metallica (yeah, I'm that old) but it's actually got good sound with decent base. Best thing is I can sync, change play list, randomize, whatever. I've even got 2 different "shop mix" compilations depending on my mood and what I'm doing. I hate the radio mouth-pieces, but my player does have FM reception too.

Mine will be my Denon AVR with a pair of radio shack special floor speakers, and possibly my small 10" sub upstairs. Just gotta get in and pick up my new Denon for the living room. This one only puts out 65 watts per channel, although I think I will eventually add a couple more speakers, it will be more than enough to make the wife turn the TV volume up upstairs while I work downstairs.

I rock a JVC boombox, yep a boom box no cd player only tapes, they don't work anymore, but it picks up radio stations, and I plug my phone in through the rca and listen to pandora all the time, thing is I got this thing for christmas when I was 9. It still sounds great

The next build and greet I can bring my little 2000 watt setup. 2 15's with horns, 18" sub, and 2 2x10 speakers. Its just loud enough :D

i have an old wally world special, the speakers died and we bought wally world special " sub box" and wired it in. has tweeters and two very cheap looking 8" subs but it works, and when those go ill just get some more wallyworld specials

using the previously mentioned rca to 3.5mm jack cord i hook up the ipod and cruise pandora or grooveshark.

as for longevity this setup has been working for the better part of 10 years. i remember i put it in when i got my first car and started working on it.

you cant go wrong with anything that will accept an iPod or your smart phone. to me listening to the music isn't always important but the background noise makes it more bearable when your working alone

i have several friends that have taken old head units and some car speakers and wired them into their own style boombox. looks good most are compact, and you get all the benefits of you head unit. just a thought
