garmin gps software

Does anyone know if the software for a garmin is specific only to one unit. I was thinking about purchasing a gps off ebay, but it does not come with any software. My buddy has the same exact set and i was wondering if i could just copy his software and use it on my unit. If anyone knows an answer please reply as soon as possible as the one i am watching is ending soon.

Go to garmin's website, I think you can download the software for your particular model there.
