gas gauge goes down wehn i turn the dash lights on...

i know that 95% of us have this problem...but mine is ONLY wheni have the gauge lights on. IE if i turn my headlights on, it drops. wheni completely turn my dimmer switch off (instument lights off) the gauge will rise again..

Now this owuld be either a bad ground for floating ground in the instrument panel lights correct? or an internal bad ground in the dimmer switch?

your truck has the very rare auxilary option. Kind of like a motorcycle, when you run low flip to the reserve! Just kidding of course, and in my head it sounds funnier. Check the ground for the gauge cluster, and the wires on the back of the dimmer switch. You are right though sounds like a bad ground.
