Gas Gauge

Hey guys, when a gas gauge stops working, it's usually the sending unit that **** the bed right? How do you test to see what's the culprit?

BTW this is on a 97 Dakota not a K5

usually... to check the gauge, ground out the sending wire. if it pegs the gauge full, its ok....

Could just be a bad ground too. I had a loose ground wire once on my 82... Sometimes it would work, and others it would read empty.
