Gas in a diesel truck help please

drain it .

get as much out of lines .

new filter or filters .

prime system good .

fire it off . should be o.k. if it wasn't run to long or not at all.

what vehicle ?

Did the same thing. SweetK has it right. And put as much fuel back in as you can afford to dilute any residual gas

It's an 03 duramax. Kristle put premium in not diesel drove about 3/4 of a mile truck shut off

If the truck shut itself down, it could be real expensive. It's worth trying what sweet told you.

Our insurance won't cover it. His will. It might go on my wife's record as some sort of accident but we aren't sure.

I honestly don't care if our rates go up some. All I care about is making sure my buddies truck is all good

My dad put 5 gallons in his old lly, it shut down.
But was ok

Drain tank, pull the fuel filter, since it shut down you know it's at the rail, probably would be wise to pull the lines off at the back of driver side valve cover and flush the lines out.

Re assemble, full the tank with diesel and prime it.

It didn't make any big noises before it shut off right? I've seen heads try and take flight with gas in diesels.

My brother in law did that to his 6.5. He made it an hour away before his shut down.

They drained it out, purged the lines, and it ran fine afterwards.

Buddy of mine has a NBS 07 Duramax, His grandpa filled the tank with 87, and then drove it 70 miles with a gooseneck dump trailer with a skidloader in it. It survived but hasn't run the same ever since, hazes at idle and stumbles under hard acceleration.

He never did anything besides change the fuel filter after that,

Eric, as said, drain completely. Refill with good diesel, change filter, and I'd add some two-stroke oil for the next few tanks, it's a good lube although it'll smoke a little.

As for things it could damage, cp3 injection pump, injectors, and pistons.

I think after that short of a drive that it'll be okay

I put about 5 gallons in my 6.2 once. It ran crappy, but it ran. I changed filters and kept topping off the tank. It work itself out...but I did nurse it 'till then.

Is the tank full? I'd dump some 2 stroke in there to help with the lubricity issues and run it.. If you know how much she put in just get the ratio into the 50-20:1 and top it off with diesel. It'll prob smoke like a sumbitch

If its an insurance thing...remember someone put sugar in the tank. It was vandalism remember....if thats the route you go I hope you get my drift.

Mah man hate insurance companies but I'm not gonna lie over something cause I dislike em.

His truck is already at a shop. We pay his 500 $ deductible. And I don't screw over a good friend.

That last bit is the only important one.

Shoot he was heading to Cali this next week anyway. He usually rents cars for long trips, now his rental is paid for!

I guess it depends on your outlook. I've been royally screwed out of thousands of dollars after a break in, so my mission in life is to pound insurance companies out when it comes time to pay up. There all crooks who turn there backs on you when you need them most.

This is generally true, and I have no sympathy for insurance companies (ever).

But you really could find a better life mission than that.

Eric (not the younger one), I hope it works out. I think I would have tried pumping it out before taking it to a shop, but keeping the friendship intact is the important part.

I left it up to him. This is what he thought would be the best route and I'm fine with it. Plus really its one less thing I have to do. I have enough to do.

I've come close to doing this a couple times. Some of the stations have the wrong color handles for diesel. I'm used to always seeing green and occasionally green will be something else and I'll pick it up and go "oh fudge".

I actually have nothing useful to contribute.
