Exactly. I'm doing month to month rather than annual until I decide whether or not the Blazer is a keeper. Right now I'm doing a lot of research and homework before committing to restoring it and keeping it in the family. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

I only wish I was getting the milages some of you are. I get an average of 5, doesn't matter on driving on the highway or in town. 5 mpg PERIOD, Lucky days it's six but that's not often. Pretty sure the 35's combines with 3.73's have something to do with it, plus having a strong Right leg to push with!!! Gotta get some 4.11s or 4.56s /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

I get 11.5-12.5 no matter what i'm doing. Seems to never get worse or better, pulling a trailer, hills, 4x4ing, what ever.
35 X 12.5 X 15
383 stroker
edelbrock 1406
4 speed manual
NP203

When my blazer was stock (3.08s and 31s) With the 350 with a big cam and all I got 8 MPG. Then when I lifted it (same engine) with the 42s and 4.11s I still got 8, or better. Very consistent. Then (same engine) in OD with 38s, I got 12 MPG. All those numbers are with a Quadrajet that I just put on the engine as a, "itll work for now, til I get money for a carb", carb. Well when I put the new Truck Avenger on it, tuned it up and all, gas mileage was HORRIBLE! Guess square bore does make that big of a difference.

Now with the TPI I dont know what I get because I have only put about 20 miles on it. You should get better mileage with Port injection, as opposed to TBI.

You have to distinguish between 55mph highway and 65-70mph freeway for the highway numbers because it makes a ton of difference in these boxes. I get about 12 going 75mph, but 15 traveling at 55mph. In town I get...afraid to calculate it. /forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

The factory ratings were about 2mph better for the TBI trucks, IIRC. If you want good mileage from a carb, stick with a good Q-Jet.

Well, I keep my speedo at 55 at least..
Maybe the fact that my tires make a 55 mph speed put 68 mph to the road does not help me much..

Hmmm... are fuel injected guys seeing considerably better mileage?

I'd guesstamate mine to be in the teens. 89K5 tbi 350/ 700r4 stock w/ 3:42's & 32's. I've only had it a month, so i have not done an official check, but I've driven the heck out of it, and have only filled up a 3 times, counting the 100 mile trip home in it when i bought it. I'd have to say it gets better mileage than my 84 K5 did.

Absolute best for me was 18MPG. Conditions were sea level, flat road, 50MPH, cool evening, no stop and go at all. Full tank of gas lasted a LONG time. /forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif Combo was "stock" 350/Q-jet/465/205/3.42/33's.

I broke a rocker arm stud in the new motor before I could try a similar extreme mileage test, but I averaged 14.4MPG with my Vortec headed roller 355/TPI/465/205/3.42/33's. Conditions for that test were a freeway drive of about 1.5 hours at 60-70MPH (speed limit change) up to the pass and back, from sea level to 3200 feet in the process. After the 45 minutes up to the pass, spent about 1.5 hours climbing and descending logging roads, playing around at about 4400 feet. Drove back home and filled up to get the 14.4 number.

I suspect with similar conditions to the first test the new setup would easily best the carbed setup, but those conditions aren't easily duplicated.
