i have a 86 k5 with a carbuerated 305 with the th700r4 overdrive automatic and i have a set of 33s i was lookin to throw under neath of it i havent driven the truck yet so i dont know what the gas mileagebasline with stock tires already is so i was wondering if anyone has a similar combination that could tell be what they get as far as gas milage goes thanks

Not going to be very happy with that IMO. 305, 700R4, plus whatever gears are in it (probably 3.08's) means a hard life for that 700, and you'd likely never want it out of 3rd gear.

i got a 350 700r4 3.42 i think, not sure...

it isn't that bad, and for gas mileage do the math i mean its pretty simple...

the milegage you go divde that by the gallons you put in

it has 3.73 gears. and i know how to figure out miles per gallon i was just wondering what i may get around cuz right now with the price of gas im lookin at buying a volkswagen

You also need to correct for odometer discrepancy; If your stock tires were 31s and your new tires are 33' multiply your calculated mileage by 33/31. In this case your actual mileage will be about 6.5% higher than your measured.

I doubt it will increase, if that's where you were going with this. Typically the higher up you go, the worse mileage you get. Again, talking 1-2MPG max, but that's 5-10% difference for a lot of these trucks.

I realize that in this case it is a small error. But I see some pretty high mileage claims and I sometimes wonder if people are not compensating for the speedo error.

In my case it works out to 10%, but the other way due to the addition of 4.10 gears. So when I calculate my mileage and get 15mpg my actual mileage is 13.5mpg. To me, 1.5mpg is significant error, when trying to determine how varios changes to a truck will affect mileage.

with a 350, 700r4, 4.10s and 37s I get 10 around town and 13 on the highway. The worst I got was 6 and that was switchbacks in the mountains on my out to TDS and I had a hub locked with a welded front:doah: .

Needless to say old school fullsize rigs do not get great mileage unless they are running a 6.2.

Excellent Gas Mileage on 33's

I have an 84 K5 with a 305/700R4 33x12.50's.

I found the ONLY way to get good gas mileage with this combination is LIE about it !! I ALWAYS tell anybody that asks about MPG that I get 26 City/38 Highway. It is a K5. I drive because I love it... not for the MPG.
