GAS PRICES

The whole idea of a boycott is to show that the oil companies do not have the right to raise prices just to increase profit.

But since very few people buy fuel daily, a one day boycott makes no sense. If you are going to boycott something, actually boycott is. Stop using their products for at least a month.

Again this will do little to the gas prices, since profit is not the only reason prices are high.

they still are drilling in AK, and guess where that oil goes? anyone: japan.

"Oil and gas shipments to Japan, Alaska’s number one export partner, increased from $359 million in 1999 to $401 million in 2000. Oil and gas accounted for 30 percent of Alaska’s shipments to Japan, following seafood, which represents 54 percent of the state’s exports to the country. Japan buys 100 percent of the state’s LNG exports, and has received shipments from Nikiski since 1969 without interruption. LNG shipments rose slightly in 2000, to $145 million.

"Japan is the number one foreign buyer of crude oil with $185 million in shipments, followed by Korea at $103 million. Crude oil was 22 percent of exports to Taiwan, with a value of $10 million in 2000. Total Alaska exports to Taiwan fell 31 percent, due to reductions in crude oil shipments. another thing about NOT BLAIMING BUSH (???!!! /forums/images/graemlins/angryfire.gif)
where the F%%K do you think his family got thier money from. CHENEY? Look at the whole Cabinet: Energy industry. IF you think they dont have anything to gain: dream on. follow the money.... read between the pipelines.

on another note: what does anybody think about the 85 ethanol mix? did I get that right when they said on the news that it was 100 octane? anyone?

Not all fuel is used in automobiles. These fuel prices are crippling us. We caretake 3 cemeteries as well as own a monument business. With the way the grass is growing here now we are buying 10-15 gallons of gas a day to keep the mowers for the cemetery and the compressor for the monument company running. That averages $100-$150 a week for fuel, more than the weekly wage of another part time worker. The cemeteries combined only get around $1500 a month. You do the math. A cemeteries money comes from interest off a perpetual care fund so it's not like we can charge more to offset the cost. After memorial day the cemeteries mowing budget for the year will be exhausted and every person that comes and complains about the grass will be told to write their congressman.

Alot of people in my area are blaming the war in Iraq for high fuel prices, saying the military is getting all the fuel(and local builders blame the high price and scarcity of plywood on the war too). But I think 90 percent of military stuff is diesel, not gasoline powered, and right now diesel is 1.75 a gallon here, gas is 2.05 and up.I have noticed the higher the price goes the poorer quality the fuel is--my trucks have been pinging more than ever on the regular gas than ever before, and its not the trucks fault--its the gas!.As for more refineries, the post about alaska's oil is correct---and if we ever do build more, you can bet the AMERICANS will be the last to see any of it.Why is it our government gives everything to foriegners, and screw us out of everything--at our expense /forums/images/graemlins/angryfire.gif /forums/images/graemlins/angryfire.gif.All they do is spite us in return for our generosity.
I have noticed a lot more diesel pickups clattering around here lately.I am kicking my but for not keeping my 86 vw jetta diesel--43mpg wasnt too hard to take.I bet I could have sold it for a lot more now! /forums/images/graemlins/ignore.gifPretty soon if theese prices keep up I'll be taking all my vehicles off the road----maybe I'll be riding my yard man riding mower to work, that is,if I ever DO find a job around here! /forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

This email has been going around for years. It's short sighted, only hurts yourself, and the oil companies don't really care. Idiots here in CA been doing that and see what it's got them /forums/images/graemlins/dunno.gif. It doesn't affect them because everyone will be back buying the stuff the next day. One previous post had it right on(except the part about gas being cheap /forums/images/graemlins/dunno.gif /forums/images/graemlins/dunno.gif /forums/images/graemlins/dunno.gif). Environmnetal policy is to blame. We should be drilling our own oil.
It's just like environmental policy was to blame for the fires in san diego. The damn democrats just passed a law here in communist california that says environmental law takes presidence over human safety. The actual writing is of course different but the effectual poilicy is this. You cannot brush clear 300 feet because of environmental concerns. Environmental laws are passed in this country based on junk science that is biased on political agenda. SCREW THE ENVIORNMENTALISTS AND THEIR POLITICAL AGENDAS THAT DO NOTHING MORE THAN CLOSE OFF ROAD ACTIVITIES AND WISH TO GET RID OF THE AUTOMOBILE!!!! /forums/images/graemlins/angryfire.gif /forums/images/graemlins/angryfire.gif /forums/images/graemlins/angryfire.gif

This e8 stuff is nothing but a corn farmer propaganda thing. Here in CA we are stuck with a special blend of gas. This causes a monopoly on gas so the refineries can do whatever they want with prices. The environmentalists forced us to go to MTBE and this caused the biggest environmental disaster ever. I bet the media reported that one! They then decided that they need another additive, like we really need additives. Corn farmers said that ethanol is required, a corn byproduct. They won out because of kick backs and dirty politics with the democrats. Now CA is stuck with this damn ethanol special blend that only benefits special interests like the corn industry. By the way, ethanol is just as dangerous to the environment as MTBE!!!!

Last I heard a gallon of gas in Japan was over $5/gal. Let's see, 2.50/gal or $5/gal ... who should I sell to? /forums/images/graemlins/thinking.gif

Oil companies profits are the lower than most all other industires. On average they only make around 7 cents per gallon of gas. The profit margin on a industry wide average of oil and gas companies is usually around +-5.5%.
The average profit margin for all other major industries is around +- 6.5%

The guy who sold you your last set of tires makes way more profit off that sale than big oil. Yet I see no one here crying about the price of Swampers and calling for a boycott.
GAS IS CHEAP!!!!
How many of you dont think twice about paying a buck for a bottle of water or soda pop? At $1.00 per 20oz bottle. Water is far more expensive than gas. How come no one compalins about the high profits Coke, Pepsi, ECT who dont have to explore, find, drill and refine, to get their product to market.

The true reapers of profit on gas sales are the various governmental agencies that tax gas. I know I pay about 75 cents per gallon in taxes. My local gruberment wants to raise taxes another 5 cents on top of that so they can fill some pot holes.
Minus taxes a gallon of gas is around 1.25 CHEAP!

BTW. Most estimates of President Bush's wealth put him around 10 million dollars.
The Ketchup man Kerry is worth well over 110 million dollars
Over 10 times what President Bush is worth.
Looks like Ketchup pays a lot better than oil.
75% of Heinz manufacturing is overseas Cheap Labor= high profits. Lets Boycott ketchup!!!!!!!!

One of our problems is that America is designed around driving. We would have a lot of trouble functioning without the automobile. Sure gas is more expensive in other countries but I bet if you compare the average miles the typical American drives to that of almost any other country it would be quite a difference. I could be wrong but in this case I doubt it. I know personally I put on about 400 miles every 2 weeks, and I barely drive. I drive to work and to the grocery store or odds and ends places. Gas seems like its on some trend of infaltion that wages just aren't. I don't know it doesn't make sense to me in the end. Whatever happened to Bush's plan to kill overtime? He realize he would never be reelected if that went through?

There was never a plan to kill overtime, it was all just liberal BS /forums/images/graemlins/rotfl.gif

Only 15 to 20 years ago 80% of the world walked, rode bikes, or rode on donkey carts to get around, and America was the only one of a few countries that drove an automobile every where they went. That is now changing. The other 80% of the world wants to live the same way we in America do, which is another reason for higher prices. Third world countries like China, which used to use Yaks as there primary source of transportation only 15 years ago, are know coming close to America in their demand for oil, and will probably surpass America in demand in the not to distant future. The increased compititon and demand for oil by third world counties for oil means that the price of fuel will probably never come down below the $2 mark in America again, and will eventually rise to $3.

I am seriously considering changing my truck over to Propane. I think Propane is currently only about $1.35 a gallon.
