okay so heres the situation. my truck got stuck in the mountains. everything just died. we thought it was a fuel pump so we ended up dropping the tank and sticking a new fuel pump in. when i went to fill up, right before the gas nozzle stopped pumping gas (it was almost full) gas started spilling out from the top of the gas tank. what could this be? im pretty sure we connected everything right. it wasnt spilling before it was almost full so i dont think its the filler or breather hose.... any ideas?

You probably didn't get the gasket lined up right for the sender unit on the top of the tank. That is pretty common.

oh great. well at least the tank is almost empty

So which is it, almost full or almost empty

Like was already said, either the rubber O-ring isn't seated correctly or it tore when replacing the sender.

same thing happened to me, it ended up being the rubber o ring gasket for the sending unit.
