Externally they are probably the same but the 87+ TBI tanks had baffles and a pump on the sending unit.
I have no idea if the sending unit openings are the same.

I just found some other listings that say they are the same. Thanks for the info though..

Externally yes. Internally, unequivocally not.

If using an *unbaffled* tank in an injected vehicle, you will end up with (potentially) greatly reduced usable tank capacity. If its just daily driving activities almost certainly no issues. If its bouncing around, or off camber, under about 1/4 tank and you are likely to have the engine die on you at bad times.

I found other listings that list the same part number for both applications gas and diesel. So I guess I’ll just wait and see what shows up.

Prior to 1987 that would be correct. Unfortunately some parts vendors still don't have their stuff straight.

I could see making the same baffled tank for everything just to cut down on stock needed, but obviously that would increase cost, and companies are generally loathe to do that.

FWIW, the aftermarket baffle/sump setup is terrible (what I've seen so far), I'd say marginally better than nothing. The factory design was much better, no way you'd starve for fuel unless the truck rolled over, but GM went cheap and used plastic, and they tend to break over time. Can't win apparently. lol
