So I actually worked on Horton last weekend. One thing I had kind of forgotten about is my gas tank filler neck.

They aren't really welded to the gas tank it's a press fit and then a sealant of some sort. Well after me abusing said gas tank the filler neck where it goes in is loose and it leaks.

I was thinking a couple tack welds to hold it and then some sort of lower temp sealing like solder or something.

Gonna secure it better this time too so it doesn't happen again
And no I don't want a fuel cell

I have welded a couple of filler necks. Leave empty for a week and open. Fill with water to just below the weld area. I TIG welded them but MIG would do.

J-B Waterweld putty will work on it too, provided its sanded clean and isn't applied at frigid temps...no fear of explosion either...

I had to solder the original gas tank filler neck into the new tank I got for an El-Camino I had...I wouldn't want to do it on a tank that had gas in it recently...but a brave soul I know who was a great body man soldered a tank I had that leaked on a station wagon, just by emptying it out,and shooting his C02 fire extinguisher into the tank and putting the cap back on it!..then soldered it like there was no chance it would blow up...I stood about 100 feet away while he did it!..:eek1:

I really think Wade is right just gonna weld it. Easy to do quick. And it's been empty for a while

if its had solder on it got to remove it all before weld or it will lay hell with it . but I think you already know this.

Yep there is gonna be a chance I can't get the various crap I have used since it started leaking out. So who knows I still may end up soldering.
