Got a 78 blazer that I am restoring, most of the valvetrain has been repaired but I didn't suspect the gas tank to clog my lines full of mud, I would do a flush and kick myself for losing a half tank of gas but someone suggested buying a plastic gas tank, can someone tell me that its safe to get one of these?
I sure like some opinions please.
Mike

they are not as tough as a steel tank as far as hitting them off of rocks, but at least you dont have to worry about rust.you can buy them to match the stock size and still put it in the stock location.

Do a search for them on here. Get so-so reviews. Enough so that I steered away from them when my K30's tank needed replacement last spring.

Dunno about Hawaii but since you'd probably be ordering it from the mainland you might try finding a place that can "dip and coat" a tank tank. I had a Gas Tank Renu dealer do mine and the thing was better than new when done, bolted in and all the parts bolted to it like a new, factory tank...because it was. Also, short of someone whacking it with a hammer or driving an object through it, they're about impervious to damage afterward.

Spectra premium steel tank is a good option. MTS makes the plastic tank. I don't know much about the plastic but my preferance is for the steel.

I had a tank on a 64 impala cleaned/coated same way.....definately the way to go

I've heard the corn gas does some nasty stuff to plastic/poly tanks. I'm getting this from the boating people all the time. Might want to look into before you buy.
