okay so ever since i have had this truck the gas tank is wierd, when i pump gas in it stops pumping, like if the breather is cloged or something. i dunno what it is!! i have to pump really slow or else gas will come out its not full or anything i dont understand why it does this. so has anybody else have this problem?? does anybody know what it is or how to fix it?? plez help a kid out and thanxz:confused::confused::confused:

Mine used to do that same thing - only on slow-filling pumps, and when I filled it using a gas tank. Turns out my hose that goes from the filler neck to the fuel tank was a bit too long, and was forming a U-shaped dip (sorta like a gooseneck, like underneath your sinks). If it wasn't being pumped in fast enough, gas was collecting in the dip, and making the pump shut off...or in several cases, shoot gas out all over the place.

Wow... I had almost forgotten about that issue!

If you're talking about your pickup truck, it's pretty much normal. It's due to the fact that the fill hose is almost horizontal. When I had mine, I had to insert the fuel nozzle into the tank so it was only about half-way in, and then only click it to the first notch on most pumps.

Fiddle around with the angle of the nozzle and insertion depth and you shuld be able to find a place that works better.

Just keep an eye on it or you will, like ascuro says, end up spilling some.

Well... it happened to me and I've talked to other people about it, so I figure it must be pretty common.

I think the non-fuel-door trucks have a different fill angle.

i'll check it when the sun comes out. so does anybody else have this problem??its starting to bug me now that my truck is my dd.
thanks for the help so far guys

yeah mine has always done that too. lately i put the nozzle in so that the hose from the nozzle is hanging at about the 8 o'clock angle and it seems to fill up no problem.

x2

my 78 does the same thing, you get used to it though.

yeah i only ask because a lot of people think the sending unit is bad and all it is, is that the ground on it is loose or the wire to the guage is messed up or disconnected. just something to check before you go removing your gas tank.
