I have a 1990 GMC Jimmy with a 31 gallon tank that I plan to reuse. My truck also has a 2" body lift. I was wondering if I could use replacement straps for a 25gallon tank to relocate my 31gln tank 2" higher for more ground clearance. The 31 gln tank measures 28-3/4" x 28-1/8" x 12-3/4" the 25 gln measures 28-3/4" x 28-1/8" x 10-3/4". useing 25 gln straps seems perfect. Am I overlooking anything or is there anything funky about doing this before I order them. Also my fuel and brake lines are F***ED anyone know a CHEAP place to get replacements. LMC does not have them for TBI engines

I believe the tank is sucked up against a frame bracket, it doesnt just sit on top of the straps. I don't think just using the 25 gal straps will accomplish what you are trying to do

The top of the tank sits against a crossmember in the frame, as rerurrected_jimmy said. When I swapped my 25 for a 31, I had to madify the factory straps. If you're that concerned about hitting it...get a skid plate for it. FWIW, the skid plate is at the same height for both tanks.

For your lines. Cheapest option would be to buy new straight lines and bend/flare them yourself.

Your right Colbys truck is fierce. Would love to do something like that to mine but I dont think the inspection man would give me a sticker any more. Took down my tank this morning and yep, no easy way to steal an inch or two. I thought about just getting a whole 25 gln tank from LMC but I dont think it is made for the stock electric in-tank fuel pump and all the 1990 TBI stuff.

I don't know if both tanks were offered that late into the build. FWIW, my K5 (87) had an intank pump with the 25 gallon. The fittings for the hoses are on the sending unit, so they will swap over to another tank.
