My gas tank is in bad shape its dented, rusty and prone to leaks. I've dropped the tank and patched it twice since November. Whose tank is the most drop in ready? LMC/brothers, class parts? A number of sites that carry metal tanks mention this "Does not come with the original Blazer filler neck. Spout may need modifications."

Do they mean unhooking the rubber filling tube and re-using? Or do the majority of the replacement tanks truly have shorter metal spouts? So I could use some recommendations on good place to buy a tank w/ sending unit. I'm leaning towards a metal tank at the moment.

Thanks!

Relocating a filler neck isn't any big deal on a steel tank......

.... unless you've already filled it with gas. :)

My understanding is that the larger capacity tanks seem to always have the metal part of the filler neck pointing in some oddball direction that causes it to hit the body or frame on a 1st Gen. Cut / Rotate and re-weld..... I say! Shouldn't be deal killer if you find a tank that otherwise meets your criteria.

I can tell you for sure the poly tanks suck. My filler neck was short and did not come out in the same spot as stock. I ended up having to heat it up and bend it toward the front of the truck, and buy universal 1.5" filler hose for $50/foot because the filler neck that LMC sells is the wrong diameter.....

I'm going to run an aluminum cell when I get back to the states and put in the EFI. There is a guy who makes them on 67-72chevytrucks.com. IIRC they are @$400 but the shipping to Hawaii was a deal breaker for me at the time. I will be ditching the poly tank and buying one from him when we get back.:thumb:

Great ideas, there is a burb hanging out in the local pull a part. Nice write up and pics, the tube movement concerns me. I know you can weld on a gas tank but how did you safely accomplish such a feat? And the '90 cross members, are they bolted or riveted in?

1987 Burb 25 gallon tank and sending unit. Remove and plug existing fill tube. Move tube to Drivers side rear. Cross members from 1990 Blazer. Fuel Lines from 1990 Blazer. Fuel pump from a 1997 K2500. Modifed skid plate from a 1990 Blazer.

I don't know about anyone else but knowing that Sean is in Germany now I'm starting to read all of his posts with a German accent..... lots of extra emphasis on the "v"s and "z"s

"I can tell you for zure, zat zee poly tanks suck. My filler neck vas too zhort and did not come ought in zee same zpot as schtock...." etc. :D

The tank was new! iirc, I don't think I paid that much for it. I think it was less than 75 shipped.

The cross-members on the 90 were riveted and then I welded them to the 72.

I've been reading all the local signage the same way:haha: My wife laughs most of the time, but I think I may be pushing it...

Ahh well, we'll see how long it takes for her to say something/hit me instead of just rolling her eyes...

The same problem can happen from being in Hawaii for too long.....

There was a standup comedian who told a joke about Hawaii having unique words with so many vowels and strange pronunciations.

When he finally got back to the mainland, he read a sign that sounded like "OOOO-A-HOOOALLLLL" then realized that it simply said U-HAUL.

100 bucks + free shipping. This seems a little too cheap?

It appears the filler tube is in the correct spot. The only thing its missing is a vent tube. Reckon if that was added, I could still mount in the original location without any issues? Since this tank is not as deep as the 1st gen, the location and mounting straps theoretically could be reused I would think?

I'd have to pay mix and match with the sending unit as I'm not running fuel injection.
