i need to pull my gas tank to put my flip on but this is the first truck ive had that had a skid plate...i see the front bolts but none in the rear...is there a special way to take the skid plate off or something???pointers???

I took some pictures for you.

The middle "leg" was cut by somebody else because the bolt wouldn't come out.

This is on an 89 sub.

Pretty much hidden under the filler plate between the bumper and tailgate. Three bolts as shown. You'll probably need to bend the skidplate down once those bolts are out. I unbolt them, crawl under the truck, then from the front of the skidplate, bend it down SLIGHTLY, until the rear mounting pieces slide free. Mine won't just drop straight down without doing this.

Open your tailgate and you should see the bolts right there. I think there is no need to remove the filler plate.
