So on my 85 K10, I have 3 lines coming from the gas tank 2 go to the fuel pump, and th third I finally tracked down to a hose that comes up on my driver side of the core support. For the longest time I thought it was a vent for my front axel... But I guess that this hose is supposed to go to the charcole canister to vent the tank safely of fumes, but the charcoal canister has been removed a long time ago by the PO who ripped out all emissions equipment.

So my question is do need the charcoal canister, or can I just keep running it this way?

The biggest advantage of keeping the factory evaporative emissions stuff is to prevent condensation in the tank. It reduces hydrocarbons too if you're into that:) If you keep your tank full in the winter months when we get the big temperature swings it shouldn't be a problem though. I know lots of people who don't run it, but there is really no bennefit to removing it.

When I did my EFI conversion I swapped in a canister from an EFI truck to simplify the system; no perge valve and the canister perge is just connected to a referenced vacuum port. So far this has worked well for me and I don't see why it wouldn't work on a carbed truck.

well, as far as I know I have never had problems with condensation.

I think I should just find a little filtered breather that I can stick on the end of the hose, and then put it in a protected place that won't get any rain or mud splash.
