I dont want to bias the answers at this point, so I will ask this way...

What would the indications be that a gas 700R4 was installed behind a 6.2l diesel?

Im having some problems, and trying to decide... what the source of my problems may be.

My pinion bearing is shot right now, so Im not driving but hope to get it back on the road soon, however the problems with the trans is giving me SERIOUS CONCERNS!

Thanks!
Andrew

not enough stall speed

Edit: I think that was wrong. I think the gas one has a higher stall than a diesel. the only difference is the torque converter though. tranny is same

I have a Gas 700R4 in my burb with a 6.2 I swapped the governor to the diesel one but I used the Gas Torque convertor . It shifts at a slightly higher RPM but not enough to cause any issues

A gas version has a 3 bolt torque converter with a higher stall speed, and the govenor is tuned so it'll upshift at slightly higher speeds..

I know some guys who bolted a 700r4 from a 350 gas engine to their 6.2's and the 3 bolts lined up with 3 of the flexplate holes ,and they noted upshifts occour at slightly higher speeds, have not had any major troubles with them so far...

It would be best to retain the 6 bolt diesel converter, but its not an absolute must have for regular street duty use...I haven't looked at the TH400 in my 82 k2500 to see if it has the diesel 6 bolt one or the 3 bolt gas version, its case isn't a true 4x4 one,as there is no place to bolt the strut bars too on the bell housing....I wouldn't be surprised to find it has a typical 3 bolt torque converter really...I've plowed a LOT of bad storms with it and haven't had any trouble with it..(yet!)..

The other difference but only on some of them is ( on at least my diesel 700) the gas 700 I replaced it with didn't have the same super thick flange to bolt the torque converter cover on. I just drilled the flange so I could bolt it on, Its missing one bolt but no biggie.

My TC cover has the support rods
