gauge insrument cover question

anyone have a truck with the open spot like in the pic?
can someone measure theirs? im at work and wanting to order something to fit that hole but dont know the dimensions...

also anyone know how big the opening in the dash is down where the wiper switch would be? not on the cover but the actual hole in the metal?

I put 4 switches there but thinking of changing them out to 2 others.....




if someone can measure them id appreciate it or if they know somewhere on the web that has the sizes.....

The opening on the right top measures as follows (On the inside flats so any plate would fit inset 1/4""
Top edge: 6.8"
Bottom Edge: 6.14"
Right edge: 2.875 (A little curve in there too)
Left Edge: 2.84

I'm actually surprise nobody makes a custom fit switch plate for this opening.
All trucks without AC get this hole.
Anyhow, I'm making a custom switch plate for that location to fit my Carling Tech Switches

The bottom left hole in the metal behind the dash (Also an AC vent if you have AC) is:
3 7/8" tall by 3.5" wide (more or less) That's on a 1973 Dash, yours may vary.

That is a stock wiper switch for 1973-1983 trucks. In 1984 they put it on the column.
You can still buy these switches new from GM. Or check eBay, they are on there all the time.

that steering wheel and cover are from my 1985 fullsize jimmy that I scored for the hydro clutch setup.....

yeah i agree would be nice to have a custom fit switch plate (that is what im working on right now... well gonna get specs and order switches...

worse case is if he could make me the mount in the dimensions you provided like this that will fit the switches would be nice.... as I already can get the switches.....(ready to order the switches until I saw this over at 12voltguy.com)

Well, I think you know my choice.... I love the Conturas... very nice quality.

The aircraft flipups are very cool too.. depending on needs is how i decided.. most of the functions i needed, i wanted quick access to... i felt the flip ups where not a good idea for me...

12voltguy has come a long way.. i remember when he started, went over there a week or so ago and he has done a bunch of stuff..

I have the airplane switches already...
I can get the rockers and the part they clip in... so depends on how much more his is for the plate, winch controls and all.....

dunno... what do you think would be best?
I woundt mind getting it in there but have no clue on how to get it to stay... rivet it in?
I will be cutting off the shelf to make room to get in the back of it....

Well, it certainly would be simpler to oversize it a 1/4" and just screw thru into the silver bezel..

It would definitely look better if it was clearence fit to just inside that silver band, up against the little black lip.. If that was the case, I'd say you prolly really need to put a couple little L-brackets on each side to scew into.. that lip looks a little narrow.. Tho you may be able to squeeze some tiny #6's or #4 self tappers over on the edge to catch the lip..

if your not fabbing the plate, i'd say maybe go oversized... tho i guess you could trim/shave a tad to fit, if his is off... heck, he prolly has a truck to trial fit it in...

I did... Don't wanna hijack this thread on Rootbreaker.... I'll just say, I'm contemplating producing them... I'm thinking there may be something of a market... price wouldn't be cheap, probably in the 250 to 350 range..

Do a search for "dash pics" with my name in the advanced search. and my thread on the dash should come up.. if not, shoot me a pm...
