Im going to be getting the following gauges and if I overlooked one particular one please let me know...

Oil Temp
Oil PSI
Trans Temp

The VDO ones look affordable, but is anyone running other brands that they have had sucess with? Also, if anyone can post up some mounting options for 3 or so gauges that would help out immensely!

What gauges do you presently have?

Id dump the Oil temp one for maybe a VOLT meter.

Here are the gauges I run

Tach
Water temp
Oil pressure
VOltmeter
Trans Temp

all auto meter, lite series.

just factory ones right now. do you think the oem volt meter is inaccurate? why do you think i should ditch the oil temp? i currently dont have any engine or trans issues yet *crossing fingers....so i just want to keep an eye on a few things before they go bad. ya know?

also, got any pics?

Stay with Autometer gauges. I have the stock gauge cluster then i also have engine oil temp, and tranny temp.

will do. 4x4high - are you running electric gauges? where did you put the sender for the engine oil temp gauge?

priority should be imo...

oil pressure
water temp (if you dont have faith in your stocker)
trans temp
oil temp (kinda a luxury, interesting info gleened, but not vital)
then more specifacs like fuel psi, vac, etc...

and another vote for AM's...

sorry to sound like a newb...but whats the AM's?

I run mechanical gauges. I welded a bung onto the oil pan and drilled and tapped it for 1/2" NPT, same for the trans, welded a bung onto the pan and drilled and tapped for 1/2" NPT.

any other places to put the sending unit for oil temp? or is this the best place?

My truck is an '84, so the OEM gauges and sending units are OLD> So, I dont really trust them. I do plan to move my AutoMeter gauges in the OEM spot, just havent gotten around to that project.

Here are my gauges, sorry for crappy pic.

The OIl press. and water temp are down low. They are easy to read while driving.

The tach is on the steerin column

The Volt meter and TRans Temp are in the custom pod on the dash. I had a AutoMeter CLOCK in the pod, but I had 2 of them go bad and said screw it and got the trans temp.

i love that pod. where did you get it?

haha is that even possible? never heard of that...so i think im gonna go with oil psi (mech), trans temp (elec), and oil temp (elec)...

now to find a pod to mount them to the dash.

Yeah...There was one on a show Sat morn. xtreem 4x I think.
I dont see many AM might carry them , or google them.

EDIT: AM DOES carry them, there around $55.

Any fluid that is being meausred for temp the sender must be located in the mass (oil pan, tranny pan) of fluid to be correct.

Mechanical gauges are more accurate than electric also. If the resistance changes with an electric gauge then the gauge reading will be different as well. Resistance can change from a sender going bad, wire going bad, wire getting too hot. A mechanical gauge as long as the capillary tube doesn't get kinked and the mercury leak out then it's good.

just bought 3 autometer gauges (trans temp, oil psi, water temp) from summit. cant wait till they get here...now only if i could figure out where to mount those suckers...??

Why not in the stock location? I put a trans temp in the brake light hole,So now theres 4 in the corner.

It looks cock-eyed in this pic,I fixed it but dont remember how :doah:
