My speedo quit working yesterday. It just sits at 85mph now. I'm going to take the cluster apart and see if, hopefully, the cable might gave just popped loose but I'm thinking it probably snapped.
My real concern is the gas gauge. For some reason I can't remember if it always stays put of if it drops to E when the truck is off.
I've owned my K5 for around 17 years now and for some reason, prob old age, I can't remember if it drops to E after shut down or if it just reads what's in the tank.

Can anyone help jog my memory?
Thanks!

If it is a 90 it will not have a speedometer cable as it is electric speedometer. i think my gauge go to 0.

Pretty sure mine stays pretty close to last reading when shut down. I don't think it should move when the ignition is "off", that would indicate it is improperly getting power.

As stated, 1990 will not have a speedometer cable, lot easier to look at the t-case than pull the cluster to figure that part out. :)

Cruise working/not working is a good indicator if the problem is the gauge or the DRAC/VSS/wiring among those, if it worked before the failure. Cruise uses VSS/DRAC as does the speedo (and ECM) , but gets the speed signal from a different pin on the DRAC than the speedometer.
