Gauging Interest: DIY4X Trans Pan

Been talking with Kert over at DIY4X about making a 3/16" thick TH350 trans pan kit similar to his diff cover kits and I told him I'd post a message about it over here.

Cost would be around $45-$50.

Anybody else interested?

yes interest here also for a turbo 400 which I will be switching to someday. As long as its a deep pan

Im leanin more towards a Razorback style pan for my 700...course it wont ever get wheeled hard enough to need one...but still overkill is definatly my style

I've only spoken to him about the TH350 (much simpler design) but if you wanted a TH400 or 700R4 kit, I'm sure he would work with you.

If you check out his DIY diff cover kits (bottom of the page on the link previously provided), it only includes the bolt ring and the flat plate. You add the sides yourself, so you can make it as deep as you want and add as many drain/temp ports as you'd like.

At 3/16" thick, you could probably just drill and tap a 1/8"NPT hole righ in the pan for a drain plug or thermocouple.

Anything to improve original quality is definately worth the effort. The only question is the cost. On a personal note, I also have the 700R4 so that's what I would want.

seems like a good idea, however, with that large of a ring, and welding it all up yourself, you might run into some warpage issues, and problems sealing

I second the 700r one. maybe even a 4l80 one.:D

That's why you clamp it to a flat surface while you're welding it.

Basic welding techniques should be sufficient to get the job done properly.
