I need to regear my 04 dodge 2500 rear end, but i have four questions

1. what axles are under my truck? i know the front is an AAM but is that all i need to know?

2. are 4.56 the best for all around driving and towing with 35's?

3. how bad is it to change the gears in the rear and not the front and use 4wd.

4. where is the best place to buy gears and install kit

Thanks for the help guys

Gas or Diesel ? Gas 4.56s and 35s will be good. really though the Hemi makes good torque, could probably get by with 4.10s unless load gets heavy.

No idea on rearend, I would think its an AAM too. Sterling comes to mind but that could be a Ford thing :dunno:

Change rear gears and not front plus 4wd = massive carnage.

Randys Ring and Pinion is a good place, where I did mine.

Ok thanks that's what I will do

you absoluty have to keep the gearing the same in both axles to maintain drivability, few years ago i put 31-10.50 tires on the front and 32-11.50 on the rear of my blazer,i was thinking there was not enough differance to cause any issues, when the snow hit,i could hardly keep the thing on the road,it was extremly unstable when engaged in 4wd,as soon as i matched the tire sizes, all problems was solved!

Ok will do. I know my tranys going out so I may rebuild my trany then do the gears. I was just hoping lower gears would buy me some more time on the trans but font and rear will cost about the same as the trany. Thanks for all the help guys
