Curious what gear brands you guys prefer for a 12 bolt and then a 14 bolt FF.

On a budget here $400 for a set just is not in the books. Guess I will search out a used gear set hopefully.

I recently got a set of gears for my 12-bolt; Richmond Excel. That set was about $160 or so from Jeg's. The install kit was around $80. It's all been in for a few weeks now and doing fine, but I don't pound on my truck.

The front set of gears I got were the "Jeg's" brand, and unfortunately the box was labeled wrong. The gears say "Excel" on them, making me think they are just re-boxed. It looked like they were pre-setup though, which is nice, and came really well packaged. Similarly priced to the Richmond Excel gears. But, like I said, we were about to install them yesterday, and the gears are actually 4.10, not 4.56! That pinion looked big to me, so we counted the teeth :(

Good luck, I've normally had good luck with Jeg's in the past.

I use AAM two-cut gears in the 14 bolt. more $$ but run quieter.

Set up is way more important than brand. I am a fan of USA standards. Which is Yukons budget line.

x2 for USA standard. Setup 3 axles with them now. About to do a set of 4.56s in my front axle.

The finish on them seems pretty quality imo :dunno:

Fyi, the current Summit house brand are Richmond Excel just like the Jegs house brand. I bought Yukon for my 14ff and went with Summit brand in the 10 bolt front since I only use 4wd if I get stuck. The ring gear had "Excel" on it just as the other poster said his Jegs gear did. I haven't swapped them out yet so I don't have feedback but I'm of the belief that the most important factor is proper set up/pattern. That said, I probably wouldn't use Excels in a rear dif unless it was strictly a commuter. Just read a lot of negatives about them but again, who knows what percentage of the negatives were set up correctly. It's my opinion from research that Motive Gear is a decent middle of the road brand. I've not run those but during hours of research, many feel they are a good bang for the buck.

Ryoken I have a 14B FF sitting in garage for my K5 and wanna do 4:56 gears (10 bolt front) for 35's and also wifes 67 C10 that i gotta get moving on and gears are holding me up there. Have a used set of Richmond 3:73 for 12 bolt but found out there for a car and my Chevelle AKA backburner (now) already has Yukon 3:73 in it. So need to sell used 3:73's from Richmond and get set of 3:73's for her C10.
So technically I have 3 axles :D
