What is the difference in a thick gear and a regular gear? What are the differences in carriers? the reason that i am asking because i have a 14ff from a cucv and want to keep the detroit but upgrade the gears to 5.13s? Will the detroit work on both the 4.10 and the 4.56 carriers?

Thanks

Yep you can take the 14b detroit and put in in a different carrier as long as its an open carrier.

machining a carrier

can the 4.56 carrier be machined to fit a thick gear

why exactly do you say no ?

The mounting flange on the carrier isn't thicker on the 4.56+ carrier, its actually cast offset 1/4" or so.

Since the mounting flange on the 4.56+ carrier isn't any thicker than the 4.10- carrier, you can't machine it (the flange would be so thin that it would warp just looking at it).

well from my pics of both 4.10-down and 4.56 - up it looks like just the pass side is thicker than the driver side.

i have both carriers in stock and i will go set side by side to verify. but i might be wrong .
